Sweet homophobia Alabama...

So before you read the terrifying Facebook meme posted by a dude called Mark Chambers from Alabama, keep two things in mind: he totally said he was sorry, and he's a mayor. So here goes:

"We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics."

Mayor of Carbon Hill,

...wait for it...Alabama

It's Alabama, which is still,
technically speaking, America.

He uh...does he mean transgender people? Transvestitism is just the wearing clothes that are-you know, I'm just going to uh...wow...baby killers, huh? Anyway, he then he followed up with:

"The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know it's bad to say, but without killing them out theres' no way to fix it."

-Mayor Chambers, who again, is 

the mayor of a town in America

Does he not know about the internet and
how everything you say on it is preserved
forever? I know he's dumb, but still...

Ok, and I said he totally apologized, and he did offer an apology which we'll get to in a minute, but the first thing he did when the local Fox affiliate asked him about the posts was deny that he wrote them and that he didn't know who did. And then he hung up on the reporter...you know, like innocent people do when they've been caught not lying. Then he called back and admitted that he did write the post, but that the comments were taken out of context and that he though it was a private conversation mumble...mumble...

A lot to answer for...

So to be clear, first he lied, then he suggested that there was some context in which calling for the murder of gays, transgender people, people who are pro-choice and socialists is an opinion that a rational, person not in need of anti-psychotics would hold. And then when that didn't work, he tried to blame Facebook because he totally had his page set to private you guys. Look, Facebook has a lot to answer for, but Mark Chambers doesn't need them to make him look bad.

Oh, and about that apology, while it did (eventually) come along with an offer to resign, it kind of smacks more of 'sorry there's a backlash' than 'sorry I'm an unrepentant homophobe, I was wrong and will try to be a better person.' Anyway, here's his sorta-pology:

I'm sure it's a lovely place to live once
you get past the homophobia and threats,
but the 'City' of Carbon Hill? The City...

and again with the context thing?

Is he forgetting that time he called for mass murders? Like, last week? Because that doesn't seem like it made Carbon Hill a better place. In fact, when you google Carbon Hill you get dozens of stories about how their lying, homophobic, idiot goon of a Mayor wants to murder gays, trans people and liberals in general. So like, great job Mark.

Oh the bright side he briefly took the spot light off Alabama's
draconian, misogynistic and unconstitutional abortion restrictions.
