Crickets

Well? Nothing? Huh, that's strange, you'd think after worst mass shooting in U.S. history (again), the NRA would have something to say but...
"Chirp...chirp..."
-One of the many crickets covering
the awkward silence from the NRA
It's a question of when, not if, Wayne LaPierre
will say that the solution to gun violence
is 'more fucking guns.' So place your bets!
That's ok, they were probably just going to say something about how if people in the crowd in Las Vegas had more guns this wouldn't have happened. You know, like they do every time something like this happens. Which is a lot. Besides, right after a massacre is when we're not supposed to talk about it for fear of politicizing it, so maybe the NRA's deafening silence is actually them being classy. Not like former Senator and popular vote winner Hillary Clinton who, having no further fucks to give, spoke up calling out the NRA:

What? How dare she talk about things that are happening!
Pictured: Hillary Clinton
Not pictured: any more fucks.
Clinton went on to criticize House Resolution 3668, a bill currently before congress that would ease restrictions on the purchase of silencers saying-well, Tweeting:

"The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots. Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get."

-Clinton, going into a fucks to give deficit

Wait, hang on, suddenly the GOP cares about
everyone's health? That doesn't sound right...
The bill by the way is called the Hearing Protection Act. It takes a certain, what's the phrase? Chutzpah? No that's not it...a certain kind of disregard for reason and a willingness to insult the intelligence of the American people to pretend that a bill that makes silencers easier to come by is about protecting people's hearing. You know, I guess I'm just not sure that I care that much about the aural health of people who carry out massacres to worry about it...anyway, unsurprisingly Clinton's Tweet didn't go over well in some circles.

Wow Dana, that's still pretty loud
Hey, I guess that Hearing Protection
Act is sort of pointless then, right?

Check out noted radio host and NRA spokes person Dana Leosch had to say. Oh you remember her, she's the one that told everyone to fight liberal lies with the clenched fist of truth.' That fist presumably clutching a gun...yeah, so I'm sure she's fun to be around. Anyway, she Tweeted:

"Suppressors only reduce by a few decibels, still same decibel level as a jackhammer."

-Dana Loesch, kind of missing the point as well
as many components of a complete sentence

Also, I'm pretty sure James Bond isn't
actually a role model. He's kind of a dick.
Yeah, I'm not sure Clinton's beef is with how effective silencers are so much as it's with the fact that they exist in the first place. I mean, do they have a non-murdery use? Loesch just pointed out that even silenced weapons are damaging to hearing so what's the point of a silencer? Sure, you could use them to avoid alerting the other henchmen when you're breaking into some super-villain's lair, but since most people aren't MI 6 agents and licenses to kill aren't a real thing, we're just left with making it easier to conceal murder.

But whatever, the big picture here isn't about stupid new ways for people to get their hands on military grade weapons, it's about the appropriateness of talking about gun control in the wake of a mass shooting. The gun fans seem to think Clinton is trying to politicize Sunday's massacre, but since guns are super political and the gun lobby has literally made a career out of politicizing them, I'm not sure they've got a lot of room here.
"We're not saying we can't have an honest national discussion
about gun control, we're just saying that we should wait until
the political will to actually do something dies down."
-Rep. Jeff Duncan, sponsor of the insultingly
named 'Hearing Protection Bill' on
why we should all just shut up
